Kitchen garden

Freshly picked for your plate

Executive Head Chef, Douglas Balish, believes the quality of the food we serve comes from the freshness of our ingredients. Our extensive kitchen gardens provide a delicious harvest of vegetables, herbs and fruits for our chefs throughout the year. Enjoy tucking into our home grown produce within hours, or sometimes even minutes, of it being picked. The kitchen garden is managed organically, using composting during the winter months when much of the vegetable garden is allowed to rest.

The hedgerows and woodland around Grove also offer a rich picking for our chefs who love foraging. Whilst the nearby estuary and coastline inspire the team to look further afield for coastal herbs and vegetables.

Our walled garden is planted with culinary herbs and vegetables, surrounded by cut flowers, and criss-crossed with paths for you to explore. Curl up with a book on a bench in the peaceful garden, or enjoy a picnic enveloped by beautiful colours and scents.

History

Discovering the ‘lost garden’

Aerial archaeological photographs of our estate have confirmed that Grove’s kitchen garden sits in the same location as a ‘lost’ garden that pre-dates the existing 17th century walled garden. We love knowing that our modern kitchen garden, has such a strong connection with how the ground was used in the 17th century, and our team are treading in the footsteps of their predecessors.
